No custom fields available for Product (i.e. per piece/per can)

This is a generic feature for items where an item type is always present as a drop down and can contain different units e.g. kgs, litres, per bag, per meter etc.
What we were thinking, custom fields such as UOM, shipping terms, lead time and alike are intended to add additional information about the product. It also makes the user interface more friendly, organized and readable. Plus, when it comes to data extraction of the product list; product maintenance will be of ease. Since sorting per product property can be done using those added custom fields.
